The operational problem

A commercial application needs more than a download link. Purchases must connect to licenses, installations must receive the correct permissions, and updates need a verifiable delivery path.

A shared service supports the commercial lifecycle across Desktop and hosted WordPress: purchase, activation, entitlement checks and ongoing software delivery.

What the product does

  • License and installation lifecycle management.
  • Product plans, entitlements and signed update offers.
  • Purchase and billing workflows with administrative operations.

Engineering decisions

One commercial backbone

Licensing and release delivery are shared infrastructure for the ecosystem. Product-specific boundaries remain explicit so Desktop installations and hosted sites follow their own lifecycle.

Treat updates as a trust boundary

Update offers and package verification are part of product security. The server and clients work together to establish what may be installed, rather than treating a download as sufficient proof.

Make operations reviewable

Licenses, releases, billing and installation management have distinct modules and tests. Release documentation records the deployed baseline and rollback procedure.

Reliability and maintenance

  • Tests for installation credentials, entitlements and signing behavior.
  • Administrative key-masking and no-plaintext-key regression coverage.
  • Origin controls and database-backed integration tests.

Testing and delivery

The TypeScript service uses Fastify and PostgreSQL. Vitest covers application behavior, with database-backed integration tests and a separate download-service test suite. Deployment and rollback procedures are documented alongside the products that depend on it.
